Large Curved Screen at Broadgate

Following a competitive tender process, IVC Technologies Ltd was selected as the specialist AV integrator to deliver the grand marketing suite visions for the world-famous neighbourhood Broadgate located in London.

Designed to showcase the ground-breaking facilities at 3 Broadgate, the marketing suite comprises two floors, both outfitted with cutting-edge AV technology, providing interactive areas with the potential to deliver high-impact presentations and demonstrations to enhance the overall customer journey.

The Video Wall is believed to be the first truly curved 3 metre wide LED display screen in the UK.

The objective was to use the very latest display technology, coupled with a simple to operate routing and control system. The entire space was built to bespoke specifications, with the finished aesthetics being of upmost importance to the customer, which raised some interesting challenges. Most notably the sweeping curvature of the screen on the lower floor which required a truly curved 3-Meter-wide LED display to follow the curve of the building.

The adopted LED video wall technology was provided by DigiLED. Their 1.5 mm Curve G product was used and consisted of 84 tiles, each with four adjustment points all of which had to be aligned perfectly to provide a seamless curve – an industry first for this application.

Rather than being suspended from the ceiling, a custom bracket and frame was developed to give the impression of a flying display in front of the curved wall. The bracket included a swing mechanism to allow easy access for maintenance and installation and has magnetic locks to lock the screen into place, with the ability to be activated and deactivated by the control systems engineering functions. Entirely bespoke, the bracket and frame are designed by IVC in partnership with AVS Metalwork Innovations.

On the upper level of the building a single 98-inch planar large flat display was used to provide interactive touchscreen functionality for users, again utilising a bespoke mounting bracket to suit the curved wall.

Connectivity to the system consisted of the touch screen presentation PC, two Mini Mac PCs to run the customers applications and a Barco Clickshare wireless presentation system dedicated for each floor. The Clickshare system provides a very simple to use system for showing BYOD content without the need for wires or plug in points.

Supported by a 7.1 Dolby surround sound system, both floors are equipped with ceiling speakers that have bespoke mounting arrangements to allow them to be suspended above the drop-down ceiling panels.

Crestron controller has been used to control all AV elements across both floors, using iPads as the control interface.

In addition to providing control of AV system elements, the controller links to the BMS system provided, enabling control of lighting, blinds and temperature. As well as running the customers architectural model control applications and effect lighting, allowing complete control of all elements of presentations and demonstrations.
