British Medical Association Video Wall
The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK.
The BMA approached us regarding a replacement signage and IPTV solution, and to discuss the deployment of a large video wall display for the reception area in order to substitute the existing static signage and noticeboards. Diminishing the need for print and enabling more freedom and flexibility, while enhancing customer engagement.
Reception and lobby areas are arguably one of the most important areas of a business. First impressions are formed and customers are gathered in these areas for pro-longed periods of time. With this in mind the BMA wanted a high-impact video wall to not only set the tone for their brand but to create an interesting and engaging environment for visitors upon entering the building.
Following a demo of the Tripleplay signage and IPTV management platform, the BMA agreed that the system would meet their requirements for both the reception video wall and the replacement of the existing signage system. The BMA wanted to adopt a phased approach and the video wall being was the first priority.
Due to budget limitations it was decided that a conventional and expensive separate video processor would not be used. Instead to fill the space available we suggested the use of a combination of displays in landscape and portrait orientation.
This consisted of four central ultra-narrow bezel 55 inch HD display panels giving an overall central image size of 110 inches at full 4K UHD resolution. These screens would be driven by an advanced signage player, so they could be used to show multiple layers of content types or full screen video in up to full 4K UHD resolution.
Samsung ultra-narrow bezel screens were used to offer a near seamless impression when used for full screen content and these screens also allowed us to loop the video content and assign the viewing areas from the incoming display port 4K video feed.
The central screens were flanked on either side by two further displays of the same type in portrait orientation which were fed from independent signage players. This increased the overall display space available without the expense of an external video wall processor.
Wall mounted speakers were added above the flanking displays to provide sound when using the central area of the video wall at full screen resolution.
During set up we combined the capabilities of Tripleplay’s event control and screen control to allow the system to be managed fully from the Tripleplay web management platform, so no separate control system was necessary.
As well as live video, the system can display all types of signage content including static and animated graphics and image slideshows, static and scrolling text, RSS feeds, clocks and calendars, XML feeds and live HTML content such as social media feeds, weather and transport information.
